Who knew that Snow White was so conniving?
Universal Pictures announced today that Kristen Stewart's Snow White and the Huntsman has pushed up their release date—way up.
Someone feeling the heat of a little competition, perhaps?
Watch out for Queen Julia Robertsevil reign, K.Stew!
Universal Pictures sent out a statement today saying that "epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman will make a bold move into the early summer movie season with its new release date of June 1, 2012."
While we love us some K.Stew, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, this means the film will now be released six months earlier than planned—and only four weeks ahead of Relativity's Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane untitled Snow White film, which is set to be released June 29, 2012.
Relativity mustn't be pleased.
But all is fair in love and war and box office dollars.
"As director Rupert Sanders and producer Joe Roth were finalizing casting and preproduction of Snow White and the Huntsman, we realized that the ambitious and fully-formed world they had promised was blowing away all expectations," said Universal Chairman Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman Donna Langley in a joint statement released today. "We're thrilled that Universal will be bringing this singular version of a timeless story almost seven months earlier than anticipated."
And for K.Stew fans jumping up and down at the news of getting to see your gal back on the big screen even sooner (Snow White falls in the middle of November 2011 and 2012 Breaking Dawn 1 & 2 release dates,) Universal also gave us some scoop on her Snow White character:
"Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her. [SamClaflin plays the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power."
Sounds serious—seriously good! Luckily, Julia's Snow White is being billed as a comedy, so no reason for Relativity to get there panties in a bunch just yet.
But nothing wrong with a little healthy competition—just ask Snow White and the evil queen. The good will prevail!
