Harry Potter, Deathly Hallows Part 2 Breaks Twilight Opening Day Record

harry potter

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” had a record-breaking first day at the box office, taking in $92.1 million on Friday.

Distributor Warner Bros. has reported the amazing figure, which smashes the previous record-holder, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” by almost $20 million (New Moon having taken $72.7 million).
Commentators are saying that the massive increase in box office takings can be, at least in part, attributed to the fact that this is the first 3-D release in the Harry Potter series.
The popularity of the final installment in the Harry Potter stories has exceeded all expectations, with the movie taking more in its first day than the previous four Potter films did in their entire opening weekends.
The record-setting figure did not stop there; the latest movie has also set a new record for the highest grossing midnight screening, taking in $43.5 million. The previous record-holder again came from the Twilight series – “Eclipse,” which had previous taken $30 million.
The next record in Harry Potter’s sight is for opening weekend box office, which “The Dark Knight” currently holds with $158.4 million. Critics are already predicting “The Dark Knight” will follow Twilight in succumbing to Harry Potter and will be forced to give up that crown.

  1. Film is my life, I spend a lot of time researching and writing about it on my blog that attracts serious filmography fanatics. When I read about these competitions that are so unrelated it is a bit odd to me as each movie has its own class and charm. Do we really want to live in the episode of the Twilight Zone where all the women and men are forced to transform into look alike human robots at a certain age. I think we should all respect every movie for it's individuality and charm and therefore we have more movies to go see and be entranced has we have been for a very long time. It takes some serious research to keep my blog up and running and I travel a lot but I always find a way around hurdles because that is all they are, just like in 'track and field'. Since I do need research options due to the hobby I entertain at home when I’m not traveling. I recently got a cool new device called a Sling Adapter from Dish Network for free thru a rebate as it gives me the ability to bring tons of movies with me and my programming package including all sorts of useful material. It gives me access to online features which is filled with tons of entertainment and helpful links. Now granted there are a lot of movies but there are also thousands of TV episodes as well and scheduling of DVR events remotely if need be. http://bit.ly/ieFqCg My work for Dish Network requires a bit of travel which takes me away from my two hobbies; a blog which focuses on the lead character in a movie adapted usually from a book and the actor/actress during that point in their life and ties the two together. Then there’s my music composition which cleanses my soul and has been part of my life since I was a little girl. Having my iPad and my new Sling Adapter gives me access to a lot of the research material I need which I can watch while I travel covering the rest of the material during my travels as well. When I get home I’m prepared to write the blog post that starts the new discussion. It’s fantastic!
