Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson still talking despite breakup over cheating scandal

Can the storied romance that was KPattz become undead? Talk maybe, says a source. But forgive Stewart? That could take distraught Pattinson an eternity.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart: Can he forgive her cheating ways?

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart: Can he forgive her cheating ways?

It hasn't been all dead air between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart since news of her cheating exploded last week.
The vampire-playing "Twilight" stars began talking again last weekend after Stewart sent a barrage of tearful texts and calls his way, People magazine reported Wednesday.
Despite his relenting, Pattinson is not in a forgiving mood, a source told People.
"Rob just isn't going to be able to get beyond the cheating - one time or not," said a source who knows them both.
Beyond the betrayal, Pattinson reportedly cringed at the dramatic public apology Stewart issued after Us Weekly published photos of her locking lips with married director Rupert Sanders.
"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," she said in her statement last Wednesday.
"He read it online and was livid that Kristen is out there giving a statement and he's the last person to know about it," a source told Us Weekly.
A Stewart source said the ingénue had the best intentions with her mea culpa, wanting to clarify it wasn't a long-term affair.
"Kristen wanted to own up to things, as hard as it was for her to address publicly. She's punishing herself," the source told People. "She got caught up in a moment and immediately knew it shouldn't have happened."
The source in Stewart's inner circle said the actress rebuffed advances by Sanders dating back to filming of their movie "Snow White and the Huntsman" last year.
"Rupert had been infatuated with her since the production, but she always kept it professional because she loved her boyfriend," People's Stewart source said. "She still does. It only became a flirtation recently, and she was lured into a brief situation that she never wanted."
Stewart, 22, and Pattinson, 26, have been dating for three years and recently shared a $6 million love nest in Los Angeles' Los Feliz neighborhood.
Shortly after she dropped her bombshell on Pattinson last week, the Hollywood hunk hightailed it 80 miles away to the secluded confines of pal Reese Witherspoon's 7-acre compound in Ojai, Calif., People said.
He and Witherspoon became close while shooting "Water For Elephants," and the now-remarried and pregnant actress also endured her own painful split from ex-hubby Ryan Phillippe in 2006.
Her peaceful $7 million historic hacienda has a horse paddock, pigs and no email access, Witherspoon recently told Elle Décor.
"This has been such a blow to Rob," a Pattinson source told Us Weekly. "Talk about having his heart ripped out."
Stewart, meanwhile, has been holed up at her parents' house in the San Fernando Valley, Us Weekly said.
A source told E! Wednesday that Pattinson had already pulled up stakes and moved on from Witherspoon's secluded spread.
The intensely private actor has not commented publicly, but unidentified sources told Us Weekly that he's asking lots of tough questions and rehashing possible warning signs.
"Rob said he suspected something because Kristen is normally very relaxed about her phone…and she was being really weird lately," an unidentified confidante told Us Weekly. "She reassured him nothing was going on. …He's disgusted because he had a feeling about this director."
With the Nov. 16 release of their final "Twilight Saga" on the horizon, the estranged couple is under pressure to resolve their relationship.
"I'm not sure they're going to be able to work through this," the Stewart source told People, "but Rob is all that matters to Kristen right now. She loves him so much. She'd do anything to be able to get through this and be together."
