Ashley Greene talks about BD

THR: Let’s talk about some of the most talked-about scenes of the latest film. Were you shocked at how graphic Bella’s birth scene was?
Greene: It was a bit hard to watch at points, but overall, I think [director] Bill Condon was extremely sensitive and conscientious of our younger audience. He had the difficult job of staying true to the book without turning off a major sector of our audience. I think he did a good job of balancing that task.

THR: Can you describe the lengths the production went to in order to keep Bella’s wedding dress under wraps?
Greene: We were literally under wraps! All of us, but most importantly Kristen, wore sacks when we were shuttled to and from the set. There were helicopters and paparazzi everywhere — it was a massive covert operation to keep it all a secret!


THR: Did the wedding scenes live up to your expectations?
Greene: Absolutely. As a fan of the series myself, I’ve been waiting four years for this moment, just like everyone else. It was magical watching the words on the pages of the book and script transform into this beautiful, live-action moment. The scene holds a lot of weight and was also special, because it was shot on the last days of filming.

THR: How do they portray Renesmee’s (Mackenzie Foy) advanced growth and supernatural intelligence in the next film?
Greene: If I told you, I’d have to kill you! The truth is, the fans already know the thru line of Breaking Dawn Part 2 thanks to the book, so we’re trying hard to keep what we can a secret, so they can savor the experience of the last film. What I will say is that they won’t be disappointed!

MYSPACE: Speaking of fashion, this film had a lot of anticipation around the wedding, and especially the wedding dress. How did you feel seeing the wedding scene for the first time or seeing Kristen in her wedding dress?

ASHLEY GREENE: It was very exciting, and, extremely realistic. Honestly, I think part of it is that we’ve become his family and so you know, I do have a relationship with these people and these characters. So you try as an actor, to make it as real as possible and, I mean, it was beautiful and it was very intimate. They kept it, you know, it was kind of a closed set. It definitely affected most of the actors who play the Cullens. So it was kind of a beautiful thing. And seeing Kristen, or Bella, walk down this aisle in this beautiful gown and I mean, she’s stunning, that was a really cool thing to be a part of.

MYSPACE: Back to the movie – the story goes from this beautiful wedding scene and honeymoon to a total nightmare. Bella is dying and you know, Kristen’s wearing this crazy zombie makeup to capture that, and all the Cullens are wasting away as well. What was it like seeing Kristen in that makeup for the first time and also what was your experience being a Cullen in starvation mode?

ASHLEY GREENE: (laughing) Um, I can’t say I fully committed to the starvation thing!
You would like to be able to say, “Oh, well I’m just going to not eat” but craft services ruins that!
Kristen I mean, she just looked unhealthy when she put the prosthetics on! ‘Cause even though you know that they’re prosthetics, you can’t help but think they look like protruding bones and they did a really great job. And so it’s very creepy and I think, you know, you have to use it and allow yourself to think that it’s real and so it was disturbing seeing that. And to think that, you know, Bella’s let herself come to this and she’s still fighting for this child that’s clearly kind of eating away at her. It was, um, certainly, the darkest thing that I think Alice that has to deal with!

Melissa talks about BD and the Sex Scenes of Rob and Kristen

Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 doesn’t hit theaters until November 18, but who says it’s too soon to think ahead to the second film? Celebuzz sat down with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to discuss her four-year journey with the Twilight franchise, and got some great details about what we can expect in film five.

You think Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s almost R-Rated sex scene in the first is gonna be hot, we’re told you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

Here is what Melissa had to say about part one, vampire sex, and Rob and Kristen’s journey:

Congrats! Breaking Dawn is our favorite film yet. Everyone is talking about the wedding, the honeymoon, and the birthing scene. Which of the big three did you feel the most pressure to bring to the big screen?
Certainly the wedding. A little bit the honeymoon. Really, the three main things are the wedding, the sex, and the birthing. Those are the big three. You deliver those or you go run screaming.

Are you nervous about the fans reaction to one in particular?
Honestly, I feel like those really delivered. Those are pretty satisfying scenes. I was satisfied by them! You’ll be shocked at all the things they can be disappointed by, and they will be: [laughing] Edward didn’t wear a tan shirt and in the book, he clearly had a tan shirt. I appreciate their passion though. It’s so much fun!

About that sex scene…everyone is blaming Kristen for the almost R rating!
I thought it was Bill [Condon]’s fault! I told [Rob and Kristen] to go for it- and they did! I thought ‘this is fantastic!’ When I saw early cuts I was like don’t you change a thing. They were like well…we have to a little bit.


I mean, can you blame the girl for getting into it?
Seriously! No way.

How have Rob and Kristen evolved from Twilight to Breaking Dawn?
Well the characters have gotten older. It’s a very different story of a high school girl showing up at a high school for the first time as the new girl, and a woman deciding to choose to have a child that might kill her. They are very different themes.

Do you think the fact Rob and Kristen have grown up helped them portray this?
I think this is the best I’ve ever seen them. They show such craft and skill in this, and are so comfortable with each other.

Bill Condon's Interview with Fandango

Fandango The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon graciously took the time to talk to us about what's on the mind of every Twilighter now that we're nearing the final weeks before the film.

He's continued to remain tight-lipped about some details (which will make for a better moviegoing experience, of course) but he had much to say on the birth scene (his favorite), the highly anticipated wedding, as well as additional scenes from Edward's point of view! Warning: This interview contains spoilers.

Fandango: Fans are really looking forward to the wedding, the honeymoon, the birth and Bella's transformation scenes. What was your favorite to film and why?

Condon: They're all really fun but I have to say the birth. There was something that happened on those nights, but specifically the first night – there was something electric about it, so intense. Kristen [Stewart] was so powerful. Obviously, it's a very feverish scene with everybody kind of getting into that mode. It happens on a movie set sometimes. Everyone gets very hushed, and after and between the takes everyone's walking around, whispering and not talking – it was one of those. Kristen didn't get up. She was on that gurney and spent hours and hours there. That scene is the one I will remember more than anything.

Fandango: What is Irina doing at the wedding (as seen in movie photos)? That's noticeably different from the book.

Condon: In that case, it's just about good movie storytelling. Just imagine if she's not there and then in the second movie, she shows up, sees Renesmee and freaks out. No one will know who she is. People will talk about who she is, as they do in the book. Or you'd be stuck with some clunky flashback. To make something really cinematic, you put it into the present tense. She doesn't want to come, she's convinced to come, she gets there, she sees something that upsets her and she leaves – so that you see, you experience what it is that's bothering her. It's because her problem with the Cullens is the lynchpin for the entire second movie. Part of it why it's there has to do with servicing what's going to happen in the first half hour of the second film.

Fandango: You mentioned that Kristen Stewart cried when she read the wedding part of the book. Why do you think it resonated so much, and what other parts resonated with you?

Condon: I think so much of it resonated because the stakes were so high. A wedding is always a really moving thing, but [Bella] is walking down that aisle knowing she's never going to see her parents again. That's the thing that I think adds this extra kick of emotion. It's one thing to say goodbye to your dad and your mom and to thank them as you're going off to your honeymoon, but when you know you're going to be a vampire and never exist in [human] form again, it's something else. I think that was a big one – just talking about the movie a while before we started. Forget about the vampires and werewolves and everything. What are the human challenges? One of them is that first difficult year of marriage. You've had the fantasy, you've had the dream, you've gotten your dream, now it's a reality. Now you're waking up with him or her every day. What adjustments do you have to make when you change this fantasy to reality? That's an interesting human question. There's a lot of resonant stuff through the book that was very real on that level.

Fandango: You've also said there's going to be a choreographed dance number at the wedding.

Condon: It's very brief, but absolutely! It was a lot of fun. All I can say is that Jackson [Rathbone] and Ashley [Greene] are incredibly good dancers. They should make musical films.

Fandango: Was it an actual musical number?

Condon: This is not a musical number on a stage or anything. This is just people dancing at a wedding, that's all. It's just that we had a choreographer to help us.

Fandango: How excited are you for fans to see the wedding scene? It must've taken high-security to keep the wedding dress from getting leaked.

Condon: I know! We're three weeks out and it still hasn't leaked. I'm so happy. Oh, I can't wait. We're going to have our premiere two weeks from Monday and I'm just so looking forward to being there with fans and just getting a sense of what they think. It is a challenge. There are other surprises in there too that we've been able to keep, but it's harder to do it these days.

Fandango: This being a PG-13 film, how challenging was it to find the balance of being appropriate and yet sexy and romantic during the honeymoon scenes?

Condon: I think it was hard. I think the crucial thing was keeping it romantic because that's what it's about. You'll see it's done in a slightly different way. I don't want to give it away. It's in pieces, let's say. You don't get it all at once.

Fandango: We get so much of Bella's and Jacob's view in the last book, but what specific parts do we get to see more of Edward's point of view?

Condon: There's something that we put in there that's referred to in an earlier book. We actually get to see Edward in his early life as a vampire and hear his thoughts about that. There's a glimpse of him in Twilight describing how he got turned, how he got changed by Carlisle, but this is more extensive. I do think we get more inside Edward and he changes a lot, too. The wedding has an effect on him. There's an aspect of self-loathing to him about what he did when he was a vampire [earlier] that he releases through Bella's love. I think that's a fun thing to watch.
